Building Community Capacity to Prevent Substance Misuse among LGBTQ and Other Youth in NYC

The Fund for Public Health in New York (FPHNY), on behalf of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is currently accepting applications from organizations either currently sponsoring community coalitions working in the following areas of New York City, Central and East Harlem; Washington Heights; Williamsburg-Bushwick, Brooklyn; Kingsbridge, Bronx, or with the capacity to create and sustain them. All questions about the RFP must be submitted to by 3pm on January 11th, 2019.


The purpose of this RFP is to identify organizations willing to participate in training and skills building around forming coalitions oriented towards preventing substance misuse among youth with a focus on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning (LGBTQ) youth.  This RFP will enable DOHMH to provide financial and technical support to organizations representing a wide range of communities in the specified neighborhoods and to tailor the activities to their needs and skills. Awardees will participate in a series of training sessions and complete follow-up activities that are designed to build capacity. This RFP is part of a “pipeline” process, designed to provide the needed skills and knowledge base for organizations to apply for and implement a longer term initiative. Only organizations that participate in this capacity building phase will be eligible to apply for the next phase.
